Midland University, a private, Christian, liberal arts university in Fremont, Nebraska is seeking a HVAC Technician/Facilities Equipment Mechanic. This is a full-time exempt position which reports to the Director of Facilities.

The HVAC Technician/Facilities Equipment Mechanic is part of a comprehensive program of maintenance of the facilities, equipment, and furnishings of the University so that all students, employees, and the community are assured of a clean, safe, and healthy place in which to learn and lead in the world with purpose.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Perform preventative electrical, mechanical, and aesthetic maintenance on all equipment and systems throughout facilities, including lighting systems, HVAC, plumbing, and shop equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair malfunctioning production and HVAC equipment including, but not limited to, boiler system, heat pumps, furnaces, VAVs, air handlers, and DX units.
  • Perform daily electrical, mechanical, and aesthetic repairs assigned through the work order system on exterior/interior physical building structure, HVAC, and related components of position's daily work flow.
  • Monitor HVAC systems for performance and efficiency and provide recommendations to the Director of Facilities based on the assessment of equipment and facility structures.
  • Follow all safety precautions/standards and University policies and procedures outlined in the Employee Handbook. Comply with all applicable building and safety codes, hazardous waste disposal, OSHA, hazardous material standards.

 

The ideal candidate must be able to:

  • Safely and efficiently operate a forklift and tractor.
  • Contribute to a safe educational and working environment by participating in all drills and training and being prepared to take action should a health or safety emergency occur.

  • Meet and maintain company driving requirements.
  • Lift up to 100 lbs and be able to fully execute the physical demands of the role.
  • Be on-call for emergencies by telephone and/or cell phone.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information exposed to in the course of business regarding students, supervisors or other employees.
  • Address other duties as required and assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications include:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A valid driver's license for the type of equipment to be driven, with no serious violations.
  • Three to five years of building maintenance experience, including electrical, mechanical, HVAC, mechanical systems troubleshooting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Technical knowledge and skills in working with air-conditioning and heating systems;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, to maintain effective communication with other department staff, faculty, and students.
  • Ability to demonstrate the highest ethical and professional behavior in working with students, University personnel and outside agencies associated with the University. Serve as a role model for students and staff in demonstrating positive attitudes, appropriate attire and grooming, and an effective work ethic;
  • Flexibility to cope with several tasks simultaneously, and must be physically and mentally fit to respond to emergency situations.
  • Demonstrate experience in using a computer for word processing, data management, time keeping software, and telecommunications.

The work environment of this role includes:

  • Strenuous lifting (up to 100 lbs.), bending, climbing, walking, stooping, pushing, pulling, dismounting and three-points of contact techniques.
  • Exposure to potentially hazardous chemical solutions common in a workplace of this nature.
  • Exposure to inclement weather.
  • On 24-hour emergency call in coordination with on-call rotation.
