As a Java instructor at the Midland University Code Academy, you'll provide instruction through hands-on, project-based learning. You will also be responsible for exposing students to the Java ecosystem, including terminology, tools, environments, and conventions. This role is meant exposure student to the basics of the Java programming language and give them working knowledge of the moving parts of a Java application.

 

This teaching position is for 2 weeks in May of 2019 as part of Midland University's new full-time intensive Code Academy. Students will have gone through the basics of web development, front end programming with Angular, and backend/develops work before starting their short journey into backend coding in Java.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Equipping students with the required skill set (programming in Java)
  • Facilitating classroom discussions
  • Assisting students individually and in groups as part of a collaborative learning environment
  • Assessing student performance
  • Preparing students to be successful leaders in the programming profession.
  • Teaching software development using Java within an immersive cohort model
  • Assisting with developing no less than 3 assignments to test students understanding of Java concepts
  • Complying with all college and University policies
  • Willingness to assume other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • Java subject matter expertise
  • Gainful employment as a Java programmer in some capacity in the last 10 years
  • Knowledge of Java libraries and frameworks
  • Experience with REST APIs
  • Able to provide a positive example to students
  • Has an up-to-date Github profile with projects that demonstrate knowledge

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching or mentoring junior programmers
  • Familiarity with higher education, curriculum planning, best teaching and administrative practices, and a record of excellence in teaching
  • Actively engaging in the areas technical community
  • Experience in hiring or interview technical job candidates
