Brief overview of Position: The Instructional Designer /Technologist is an experienced and dynamic teaching and learning professional with in-depth instructional design and technology skills.  He or she is the lead champion of innovative teaching pedagogy and technologies.   


University's leader in innovative teaching technology

  • Recommends and leads implementation of University's digital engagement strategy
  • Equips faculty with the most current eLearning, social learning, mobile learning, and other innovative learning environments
  • Designs and produces learning materials in a variety of formats including print, graphics, audio, video, animation, multimedia, web-based, and gaming to support teaching and learning needs
  • Participates in the evaluation, selection, testing and implementation of hardware and software tools, technologies, and services that enhance the teaching/learning experience


Promotes excellence in development and delivery of outcomes-based teaching and learning practices

  • Provides guidance to faculty on the development of outcomes-based curriculum and related assessment templates (syllabi, curriculum mapping, course embedded assessments, rubric development, etc.)
  • Applies research-based learning theory and proven instructional design principles to assist faculty with creating engaging and outcomes-based courses. Serves as the university resource for excellence in pedagogy including face-to-face, hybrid, blended and online modalities
  • Develops and delivers (FT & PT) faculty orientation and onboarding processes
  • Recommends classroom observation best practices to Academic Council; conducts classroom observations as needed
  • Provides training for course delivery using Canvas, the University's learning management system.
  • Remains current in industry trends, instructional design research, and related technology


Need to Have:

- Minimum of master's degree in instructional design, instructional technology, education, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution

- A passion for academic excellence, effective teaching, and educational innovation

- Knowledge of current industry trends, instructional design research, and related technology

- Three to five years' experience in curriculum design, pedagogy, instructional technology, online education, and learning management systems

- Familiarity with accessibility guidelines that govern face-to-face, distance, and online education

- Established record of effective post-secondary teaching and/ or training and professional development

- Strong interpersonal skills, including exceptional communication and collaboration with diverse constituencies, including students, faculty, employees and external parties.
