Midland University, a private Christian liberal arts university in Fremont, Neb, is seeking a Controller. This is a full-time appointment with start-date to be determined, but position is available immediately. The Controller is responsible for the University's Financial Reporting, Compliance, Student Billing and Account Payable functions. The ideal candidate will be technically versed in applicable GAAP, Non Profit Accounting and Reporting, Internal Controls, Title IV Compliance and relevant tax law.


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required; 4+ years in a mix of public and private accounting and supervisory experience desired; CPA is preferred.


Required Qualifications:

This position requires excellent communication skills and the ability to grow with the University. The University is desirous of an individual who demonstrates high energy, entrepreneurial spirit, and a desire to grow and work with a student-centered team. Considerable opportunities exist to extend beyond typical business office functions.

Key functions include:

▪ Create and oversee a culture of student-focused service for all customers of the University that supports the mission and vision of the institution.

▪ Direct, prioritize and supervise the work of 4 FTEs

▪ Manage the day-to-day accounting function and monthly close for the general ledger, cash flows, billings, and accounts payable

▪ Prepare month, quarter, and year-end financial statement preparation for senior leadership and Board of Directors.

▪ Coordinate and manage the annual external audit

▪ Assist budget managers with monthly management of departmental budgets.

▪ Oversight of the monthly payroll function

▪ Maintain a high standard of confidentiality, accuracy, and integrity

▪ Responsible for University's internal control, process and policies for financial and compliance functions

▪ Provide support to the CFO on various projects


The candidate must show a commitment to a building a resourceful and collaborative Finance Office as well as an attitude of constant improvement towards the student experience. The Controller is responsible for and is able to have:


▪ Excellent problem solving and organizational skills with the ability to work on multiple projects

▪ Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Must be able to interact professionally and positively with employees

▪ Ability to use discretion when handling sensitive and highly confidential information, maintaining confidentiality at all times.

▪ Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials

▪ Strong attention to detail with the demonstrated ability to deliver quality service and meet established deadlines

▪ Advanced proficiency and accuracy in Microsoft Office Suite

▪ Experience with Microsoft Dynamic Great Plains (MDGP) is preferred

▪ Willingness to take on new projects within and outside Controller responsibilities


The ideal candidate shall possess excellent communication skills, the ability to interact positively with faculty, staff, administration, student, vendors and regulators. In addition to the daily management of the accounting and financial reporting, this position collaborates with senior leadership team, directors and managers, related to the fiduciary responsibility of the Finance Office and any other collaborative projects or initiatives. Candidate must be able to work as a team member, be self-directed and be willing to serve as a goodwill ambassador for Midland University.

Compensation:

Wages will be commensurate with education, experience, and individual strengths.
