The Assistant Director of Financial Aid is a new position at Midland University. As Midland University is expanding online programs as a part of its strategic initiatives, this individual will play a key role in the development, implementation and oversight of a robust financial aid processing system for online learners. The Assistant Director will work closely with the Director of Financial Aid and other MU team members to support these efforts and achieve Midland's strategic goals in this area.

Essential Job Functions/Key Job Duties & Responsibilities

  1. In collaboration with the Director of Financial Aid and the MU Director of Online Operations, utilize knowledge of federal, state and institutional financial aid programs, processes and procedures to help build and create an efficient system of student financial aid delivery for existing and new online programs within the Midland University Center for Graduate and Professional Studies.
  2. Provide collaborative leadership within the University as it relates to online program expansion.
  3. Oversee the coordination, awarding and processing of aid sources available to online learners.
  4. Provide recommendations and solutions to enhance an automated financial aid process for the institution.
  5. Provide complete and accurate financial aid counseling to students and families interested in applying for all financial aid programs administered by the University.
  6. Provide complete and accurate information on various payment plans and financing options to students and families, including employer tuition assistance plans.
  7. Conduct presentations for on and off campus activities when needed
  8. Provide prompt quality customer service to all constituents.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

Experience, Education & Training Requirements

Experience Needed:

  • Preferred minimum three to five years of experience working with federal and state regulations and/or college financial aid or equivalent combination
  • Preferred experience in building cost of attendance budgets, disbursement criteria and disbursement schedules for student financial aid delivery.
  • Preferred experience with online financial aid program administration
  • Experience working with financial aid software, CampusVue/Campus Nexus preferred.

Education, Licensure & Certification Needed:

  • Bachelor's degree in related area, Master's preferred
  • NASFAA Financial Aid credentialing a plus, but not required

  • The position requires excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other software programs and applications
  • Willingness to participate in on-going professional financial aid training activities required.
  • Ability to collaborate with university colleagues with the shared goals of institutional success, service to students and program integrity.

Position operates in a fast -paced office environment with multiple telephones and office machines in a relatively close area. High volume of phone calls, e-mails and walk-in visitors is also common. Regular office hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Some nights and weekends may be required, depending on customer service staffing needs, particularly as it relates to the online learner.
