Midland University is seeking a part-time Student Accommodations Specialist to work approximately 25 hours a week (somewhat flexible) while classes are in session, August through mid-May. Limited summer hours available. The ideal candidate must value diverse insights from people with varying abilities and diverse backgrounds and have demonstrated experience as a successful collaborator, service provider, and problem solver.

Essential Functions

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for students on all disability related programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Manage a caseload of students with documented disabilities to support academic and personal success.
  • Review, interpret, and understand the medical and psychological disability documentation of students to substantiate requests and determine eligibility for services and reasonable accommodations.
  • Coordinate accommodations for each student which includes, but is not limited to, accessible texts, classroom accommodations, and accessible technology.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records.
  • Maintain current knowledge of assistive technologies in addition to working knowledge of Apple iPad assistive features.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Student and Resident Services in the review of medical documentation for housing accommodations, including Emotional Support Animal (ESA) and Service Animal requests.
  • Collaborate with Athletic Training staff to ensure academic accommodations for concussion protocol.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years of experience working with persons with disabilities.
  • Must have a demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusiveness.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must possess a high level of ethical behavior and impartiality.
  • Knowledge of legal policy regarding disabilities preferred, but willing to train.
  • Ability to deliver quality results on-time.
  • Skilled at working independently.

Compensation:

Wages are commensurate with education, experience, and individual strengths.
