Midland University in Fremont, Nebraska, (just outside of metro Omaha) is seeking an exceptional full-time Advancement Database and Research Associate. This role will support the Office of Institutional Advancement and report to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement.


Database and Research

  • Manages the Blackbaud donor database, including setting database standards and importing data from other sources as needed to add constituents to the database in alignment with coding standards
  • Responsible for data integrity and health updates, duplicate identification, returned mail, and merge as needed. Conducts database clean-up, including reconciling constituent codes, removing/combining duplicate records, standardizing addresses, and restructuring relationship codes to match needs of development and alumni functions. Runs quarterly database health tools to update addresses, phone and email records, and deceased information
  • Supports research for Annual Giving Officer and Major Gifts Officer to identify prospects based on data analytics
  • Gift entry and acknowledgement, maintenance of proper documentation for all gifts and batches, pledges, and fund agreements
  • Manages electronic record conversion in partnership with student work study positions and/or volunteers
  • Responsible for generating mailing lists based on selected parameters for fundraising and stewardship purposes
  • Creates reports for annual fund and campaigns
  • Works with VP of Advancement and Annual Giving Officer to interpret IRS tax laws and regulations regarding gift administration
  • Manage End-of-Year tax reporting and receipting process
  • Tracks alumni and fundraising events in Blackbaud, including progress toward fundraising goals, registrations, and budget
  • Import new alumni annually based on export from SIS
  • Develops and maintains a policies and procedures manual
  • Responsible for tracking of all endowed, perpetual and funded scholarships
  • Updates annual amounts available for all scholarships in Raiser's Edge and Google Drive
  • Works with Financial Aid to ensure all scholarships are being awarded to students who meet donor-defined criteria and in the correct amounts based on the fund type
  • Records all actions and documentation associated with scholarships in Raiser's Edge
  • Communicates with financial aid regarding new scholarships and updates to current scholarships
  • Supports special events hosted by the Office of Institutional Advancement
  • Supports special fundraising initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned


  • 3 years of data entry and research experience or other related experience
  • Previous experience in non-profit or higher education fundraising
  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • Specific training in development and fundraising preferred
  • Ability to collaborate across disciplines, works well in team environment, handle multiple assignments, and meet deadlines
