The major gift officer serves as an experienced fundraiser for Midland University. This individual is responsible for a portfolio of major gift prospects capable of making gifts of $10,000 or more. In addition to identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding donors, the Major Gift Officer collaborates with the Vice President for Development and President on capital fundraising and planned giving.

Key Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides strategic leadership directed to identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of top prospects and donors for the University.
  • Develops measurable major gifts goals in conjunction with the Vice President for Development and University President, which reflect the priorities of the institution.
  • Manages ongoing portfolio of major gift prospects and creates a personalized strategy for each stage of the fundraising pipeline.
  • Conducts personal visits with major gift prospects and current donors. Frequent travel required.
  • Assists in the planning and management of special events for the Office of Advancement.
  • Creates compelling, customized proposals for donor support and successfully closes gifts that contribute to annual goals.
  • Solicits planned gifts from prospects, demonstrating a sound understanding of different planned giving vehicles.
  • Provides stewardship to current major gift and scholarship donors.
  • Performs other duties as determined necessary for institutional success.

Experience, Education & Training Requirements

Experience Needed:

  • 5 years of Major Gift or relationship management experience required
  • Previous experience in non-profit or higher education fundraising

Education, Licensure & Certification Needed:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field required
  • Specific training in major gift development and planned giving preferred
  • CFRE preferred

Skills & Abilities Needed:

  • Proven record of securing major gifts and working successfully with high-net worth individuals
  • Superior interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to set and achieve fundraising goals
  • Ability to collaborate across disciplines, works well in team environment, handle multiple assignments, and meet deadlines
