The Coordinator for Academic Support enhances student success through oversight of the Academic Resource Center, Academic First-Year Experience (AFYE) courses, and the Bridge Program. This role is responsible for coordinating with departments across campus, including student affairs, athletics, and performing arts, to enrich students' academic experiences. The coordinator will also assess and refine academic support programs to meet the evolving needs of first-year and at-risk students, ensuring they receive essential support for a successful academic journey. Additionally, the Coordinator plays a key role in showcasing academic achievements through student awards, research fairs, and other recognition events.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise day-to-day operations of the Academic Resource Center, providing leadership and direction to staff and student workers.
- Establish tracking systems for resource usage and evaluate the effectiveness of academic support services, reporting on progress and identifying areas for improvement.
- Design and implement onboarding and ongoing training of student workers in the Academic Resource Center.
- Design and implement innovative Academic First Year Experience (AFYE).
- Oversee course scheduling, staffing, and training for instructors/facilitators of AFYE courses to maintain high-quality, impactful programming.
- Provide ongoing academic support to students through mentoring, creating connections to academic resources, and developing foundational academic skills.
- Direct the planning, implementation, and assessment of the Bridge Program for at-risk students and incoming freshmen, focusing on building foundational academic skills.
- Stay updated on best practices and emerging trends in academic support, integrating new ideas into programs where applicable.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree; Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in academic support, student success programs, or similar roles within higher education.
- Experience providing supervision or mentorship with an ability to support and develop a team.
- Strong understanding of academic skill-building strategies, student retention efforts, and support needs for first-year and at-risk student populations.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse campus partners and foster an inclusive and supportive academic environment.
